In out and shake it all about

So this week my other half decided it was time to redecorate her bedroom.

She's pretty much had the same colour scheme since she was 13 and has pretty much kept everything since then. Her room was full to bursting with boxes full of anything and everything imaginable. She had piles of magazines, clothes of various sizes that hadn't been worn in years and even a selection of old phone chargers including a vintage Nokia 3310.

Deciding she needed to revamp and make it look like the room of a 20-something was a lot easier than it sounds.

As usual she went in and went for the long hall, emptied her room of practically everything but the bed and started on the walls. On the first day she managed to get one wall painted, on the 2nd day the 2nd wall was painted and she had hit a stale mate.

Calling me up in tears she said needed help. I got there from work and could see exactly what she meant, change is hard at the best of times, but to have an empty half painted room and endless piles to sort through the mountain of work seemed near impossible. Sticking to it we made progress, a week later and the walls are nearly finished, the wardrobe is back in place, the new furniture units are in, at least two car loads have been to the dump and end is in sight.

Still what she had to say explained everything, 'I want to do it, I want to change my room around but it's making me so scared because it's different, it doesn't feel like my place anymore'. She agreed that it may take time but she will enjoy her room again. It's just getting there that seems the hardest.

For me, a lot of bickering, storming about and tears from us both later, I am secretly wishing the room stays like this for a long time. My patience was tested to a degree I didn't believe possible, but at the end of each day she said thank you, gave me a hug and told me she loved me. The stress may only be temporary but being able to move in her bedroom without stubbing my toes on all the boxes, I'm hoping that will last for a while!
